Young Writers 2018 Competition


The Knysna Literary Festival Young Writers Competition is created to inspire YOU to write. We invite young writers from Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay to participate… let your imagination take flight!


What does this image mean to you?

Submit your SHORT STORY in English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa
Age Groups for entries:  9 - 12 Years    |    13 - 15 Years     |    16 - 19 Years 

No less than 15 lines and no more than 60 lines. Any short story outside of these limits will not be considered. The number of lines must be indicated on the entry. 

Competition rules

  1. Your name and age must be clearly written on your entry form and entry.
  2. The short story should show your creativity and technical excellence with the language and respect for the theme. The work must be original and written only by you.
  3. Entry form and entry must be handed in on A4 size paper. No faxes, CD’s or emails will be accepted. Entries must be sent to or dropped off at Pam Golding Properties,5 Gray Street, Knysna 6570. Entrants must keep copies of their work.  Entries will not be returned.
  4. Only one entry per person is allowed.
  5. Closing date for submissions: Wednesday 20th June 2018.
  6. All winning entries will be published by The Knysna Literary Festival. By entering, you agree to this condition.
  7. A panel of judges will select the finalists from each category. The winners will be announced on Thursday, 2nd August 2018 at Knysna Primary at 12h00.  
    The judges’ decision is final.
  8. Our guest speaker at this years award ceremony is Sally Partridge author of "Mine".
